Signing up for a training plan:

You can find available training plans right from your phone! Available training plans can be found under the "Workout" Menu access on the "Start" Screen.

Learning about individual training plans:

Before signing up, you can learn more about the coach, the plan schedule, or the plan approach for any plan from menus available on training plan overview pages.

Setting a start date:

When you sign up, you can also adjust your start and end date from the Workout schedule screen. The start date will default to the closest available start date.

Start_Date.png

Following a Training Plan:

After you've signed up for a training plan, you can follow the plan on your phone, or on the web. You can access your schedule at any time under the "workout" menu. You can also see your schedule, and workouts you completed in your activity history. The status of all workouts gets displayed within both of these views, and will stay synced between your mobile device and the web.

You can view the details about each workout, and load that workout by clicking on any day in your schedule:

How do I get rid of a plan I no longer want?

Nathan, I'm not sure if it's different on different platforms, but I use an iPhone. Here's how I did it. On the phone, go to the Start tab at the bottom. Choose 'Workout' to choose your activity. Near the top, just under the blue bar, choose Training Plans. Then click on 'About This Plan'. Now, in the blue bar at the top right, there should be an "End Plan" button. If you click on that, it will warn you that it will remove all the incomplete workouts, and click End My Plan and it should all go away.

I hope that  helps!

I'd like to start a plan mid through. For example, if my fitness is already up to a certain level for marathon training, I'd not like to start from day 1. Any suggestions?

Does anyone know how to get a training plan for a 5k.  I currently run at about 29 minutes.  Would love to get down to 22-23 min.

Above it shows how to change the start/end date of a training program on iPhone, but on Android, when I click on the date, nothing happens.  I also can't find any way to edit the start/end date on the PC.

Dear Runkeeper team

The idea of the training plans is great and a big step forward but you should not realeased it like this without a proper QA.

it is fulll of bugs and problems not to mention the problems all the other runnres allready posted above. some of the bugs I faced:

1. the distance it shows after iI finished an activity from the plan is the one from the plan and not the real one.

2. when I wanted to start the activity it jumped to activity numbe 7 instead of 3. when I tried again it went to activity number 1 which was allready completed. took me many times and difffrent ways to make it the real number 3.

3. the time of the activity cheange after I save it from my iPhone to the website! one time it went down in 15 seconds!

4. the calander of the activity on the website does not match the one on my iPhone.

5. when I try to page through the months on the activity calander on the website the previous button does not work most of the time.

thanks,

Uri

Will it be possilble to create my own training plan in the near future?
I'm training for a half marathon, but I do not start from day one, in most plans.
After the half marathon I would like another plan to increase speed om 15 km.

So I would like to enter my own plans.

Feature Request:

Sync training plan with task manager (Astrid, Remember the Milk, Any.Do, etc) so that little reminders are sent.  At a minimum sync with google calendar would be helpful.  Thanks for wonderful app and training plans.

I love this and was ready to sign up for one of the 10 k plans tonight but suddenly, the only one there is the run 4 fat loss. :/ Also, does the voice prompter sync with the plan cueing you when to change pace and such? I'd love to find out for myself but all the plans disappeared!

Same problem here. The website and iPhone don't synch, so the website has me signed up for 2 classes, but I deleted both from my iPhone, and now that class no longer appears as a choice on the iPhone. The iPhone also insists that it can't synch "to API". And you cannot alter the start date on the web, either. Trying to contact support is no help, as they only respond quickly if you're an elite member, but why pay for something that doesn't work? Very very frustrating.

Mysteriously the beginner 5k plan showed up again on my iPhone, so I joined it. But I cannot change the start date as shown in the screen capture above. When I go to workout, view workout schedule, that line you have showing the beginning and ending dates just isn't there. Am I looking at the wrong place? At any rate, I cannot find it, so once again, I am stuck with a bad schedule. I give up.

I agree that the calender of the activity on the website does not match the one on my iPhone. Perhaps it is because of the different timezones. If I am set to run f.ex. on a friday on the iPhone / thursday on the computer it says "Workout missed" early friday morning... which is kind of demotivating. The first day of the week is considered to be sunday in the US and here in Europe it is monday. It also shows the distance in miles, instead of kilometers. It would also be great if I could decide on which days I would run, instead of every other day by default.

With the calender on the web page and not being able to view 'previous' and 'next' weeks or months schedule, click the actual word and not the arrow.  Then it actually works.  Damn little bug, I have discovered your weakness! :D

For most runners it's nonsens to follow a plan written by a stranger and fixed to a scedule. As Jack Daniels (the coach not the whiskey) writes: "If you see a plan, don't copy it - analyse it." So buy a book read and understand (!) how a plan works, adjust it to your needs and do it. This way you are also able to adjust it to your working hours, familiy life and the times when you're simply ill …

keep on running

Hey. Thanks for making these plans available for free.  I look forward to doing my first run with a plan / trainer in my ear. I would like to go for that first run today, or tomorrow, but I can not tweak the schedule at all, and it has me running on Sunday.  It would be nice to be able to tweak the days a little (an easy way would be to have 48hrs grace for each scheduled day), or at least to be able to change the start date for the training plan.  I'm using an Android phone (SGS2), and as previously mentioned by Fred - there is no way to change the start date.  I've also tried to find a way on the web, but no joy.

I look forward to seeing the next release.

Thanks!

I did my workout on Monday instead of Tuesday, which was supposed to be a rest day on the plan. Even though I ran and saved the info, it shows a sad face that I missed the workout. This morning's workout also disappeared and the plan is showing I still have to run 3 miles. I did 3.5. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

Considering training for my first marathon.  As a firefighter I have an unusual schedule:

1st Week - Work on Wed/Thu (48hrs)

2nd Week - Work on Mon/Tue (48hrs) and then on Fri/Sat (48hrs)

It seems if I attempt to use the "Beginner Marathon" training plan (training on Mon, Wed, Fri, and Sat each week), I'll mostly get sad faces for missing specific training days.  Is this true or is there a work around?

Copy and paste this URL in to your browser while you are logged in:

This URL will repurchase your plan (for free) and make it show up on your iPhone again. This plan is the "Running for Fat Loss" plan numbered with a 6 in the URL. Other plans have other numbers associated with them, such as 8 for the beginner 5k. Just browse to the plan you deleted and take note of the number in the URL. Substitute that number in the URL I posted above and your plan will be available again.

The only issue is that two of the same plans will now appear on both the website and your phone. Make sure you pick the right one to assign to your workouts! Next up is figuring out how to change the start date...

Andrei you are the biz bomb!  To change start dates, the work around would be to end-date the plan and then sign-up again using Andrei's path.  Arianna - the Sub 60, 10K is #19.  Just look up the plan, note the number and then paste the URL Andrei posted and replace with plan number.

Since they changed to the free workout plans, it's been a disaster for me. I previously paid for the 10K in under 55 minutes plan and it worked flawlessly.

Since the change to free plans, it sucks. I have to go to the Android "manage apps" and clear the cache in order to sign up for a training plan - otherwise the plan says it has 0 activities in it. But, it gets even worse....

Once I sign up for the plan on my Android phone and I complete the first activity, and then the next day want to do the next activity, the plan is not there.....just the entire list asking me to sign up for a plan again. Yet, if I go to the website, it says I'm signed up for 4 of the same 10K in under 55 minutes workout plans.

C'mon Runkeeper, tell us what's going on. Or, at least acknowledge there are issues, what you believe the issues are and how long it'll take to fix. For us 'users' - no response is frustrating us and making us look elsewhere for a similar product. At this point, we don't even know if you are aware that there are problems with the fitness/training plans, let alone knowing specifically what they are.

Hi!

Anyone who got the problem solved by being unable to open the workout menu in the Runkeeper app? I have an SonyEricsson Xperia X8 and I have the andriod system required and the program just ends when I am trying to open the workout menu and I can't follow the training plan that I've signe up for.

Solution?

I would like to keep on using the app and get the plan working since that is why I got the app in first place.

@Andrei (and others),

If you modify the URL you posted above to the following, you should be able to add new plans to your account with your preferred start date:

http://runkeeper.com/fitness-class/classPurchase/[PLAN NUMBER]?startDate=[MM]%2F[DD]%2F[YY]&utm_source=pChannelOwnFCButton

Insert the Plan Number and Start Date (MM, DD, YY) and don't forget to remove the extra brackets ("[ ]").

Plan Numbers (all the Plan Numbers I was able to find for Running that are freely available):

  • 6 = Running 4 Fat Loss - R4FL
  • 7 = Intermediate 1/2 Marathon
  • 8 = Beginner 5K
  • 9 = Beginner Marathon - To Finish
  • 10 = Sub 4 Hour Marathon
  • 12 = Sub 3:30 Marathon
  • 13 = Sub 3:45 Marathon
  • 14 = Sub 2:00 Half Marathon
  • 15 = Sub 2:15 Half Marathon
  • 16 = Sub 2:30 Half Marathon
  • 17 = Sub 65 min 10K
  • 18 = Sub 55 min 10K
  • 19 = Sub 60 min 10K
  • 20 = Beginner Half Marathon to Finish
Happy running everyone!

Does anyone else have problems paging forward / backward in the training plan when viewing the training plan using a web browser?  I get different results in different browsers, but it's pretty consistent that no matter what I do, I can not seem to view all 16 weeks in the training plan.  Sometimes I'm lucky and I get to see up to two months, before it stops working.  I've tried Firefox and chrome on Windows 7 and Linux (and even chrome on an Android tablet).

What happened to my Custom Workouts??? I saw that you moved them to something new called "one off". You didn't enhance the one offs (ie ability to view all activities where I used that workout). Now, I've moved to a new phone and lost all my custom workouts/one offs. UGH!!! Personal Custom Workouts are way more valuable than your $plans$.

How do I get my customer workouts to my new phone?

I too see different days/dates for the same Training Plan. When I look on the website, my plan starts on Monday with 2 long runs on Friday and Saturday in the first week. When I look on my phone it says the training plan won't start till Tuesday, with the long runs on Saturday and Sunday. I'd like to have the site and app agree on each other! Even though it is a possibility I'd be very surprised if this is a time zone issue (I'm in Europe; 9 hours ahead of California).

Anyone ever received a reply from Runkeeper about this issue anyway?

I really dislike the fact that cancelled training plans still show online.  Also, I wish the app would distinguish between runs completed as part of my training plan and those completed in my "one offs". Please fix.

Been a longtime user of Runkeeper, but gotta say that Pear Mobile looks interesting for one (I think) dynamic reason: training plans that take realtime HR feedback with zone training that speaks to you audibly.  If Runkeeper  could do that, that would be pretty cool.

Is it really that hard to implement individual starting times for training plans? Depending on plan you can at least start on any 'training day' but some plans just start once a week. Meh. Also it would be practical to allow a ±24h interval for the training days and to pause a plan if you're not able to go on due to illness or other commitments. Not every break means you need to start over with a plan, sometimes a few 'catch-up' workouts are enough to bring you back up to speed and you can go on. In the current system you'll have to start which is frustrating.

Also, add my name under the 'why no custom work outs?'.

@Kfir: Since the plans want you to work out every other day you'll end up with workouts on Saturday and Sunday, depending on what week you are in the plan.

I am looking to improve my time in the 5K but only see one 5K training plan.  Are their plans that will help me reach specific times in the 5K?  Also It would be good for me to set a time based goal for a 5 K so is there a way to set a goal for a time/distance?  I just became an elite member.

Please make the day of the week the plan starts adjustable.  Since the marathon plans all start on sunday, they all end on a friday.  Essentially every marathon is run on a sunday, so the training program is useless as it stands.

Anyone else had problems with manually assigning completed workouts to training plans? I did one of my workouts on the treadmill this morning, and I wanted to use the website to assign it to the training plan...but when I edit the workout and use the plan dropdown, today's workout isn't available, only a few from last week (which were completed) and then several about 10 workouts from now. Frustrating!
