Calculating Calories
When calculating calories burned we include the following factors:
- Distance
- Speed
- Time
- Elevation
- Activity Type
- Body Weight Measurements (*learn how to update this information here)
- Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)
When you head out for an activity with Runkeeper, the calorie count will adjust according to your set weight, duration, mileage, and pace. When the GPS coordinates sync from your mobile device to your web account, there is additional data that is accounted for in the trip summary (like elevation), which often adjusts your calories for a more accurate trip overview. The updated calories should sync back to your mobile device, and what you see then should be the most accurate number. Heart rate data is not included when calculating calories burned.
When logged into your account on Runkeeper.com, you can see the total number of calories you have burned from your activities by selecting the Me Tab, going to your Dashboard, then looking in the left hand toolbar.
