Connecting Garmin with Runkeeper
You can establish a connection between Garmin on the mobile app. Once you’ve connected your Garmin account with Runkeeper, future activity synching will be automatic. The next time you track an activity after connecting.
Here’s how to get started:
- Go to your Me tab in the app
- Tap into your Settings (the gear icon)
- Select Apps and Devices
- Tap Garmin
- Enter your Garmin login information
- Select which data you'd like to sync with Runkeeper.
- Click Agree
- After signing in, you'll be brought back to the Apps and Devices page.
Disconnect Garmin and Runkeeper
Disconnecting Garmin and Runkeeper will stop activities from being automatically imported into Runkeeper from Garmin.
Here’s how to get started:
- Go to your Me tab in the app
- Tap into your Settings (the gear icon)
- Select Apps and Devices
- Tap Garmin
- Click “Yes” when prompted to “Disconnect Runkeeper from Garmin”
Syncing Training Plans to Garmin
Once your Garmin is Connected to Runkeeper, you’ll be able to sync your Training Plan with your watch, so that you can follow along with your scheduled workouts directly from your watch. Your workouts will continue to sync over the Garmin as you progress through your Training Plan. Once you complete a workout on your watch, it will automatically be updated on your Training Plan in Runkeeper.
Here’s how to sync your Training Plan;
- If you already have a Training Plan created;
- Go to your Training Plan
- Click Settings (top right corner)
- Click Connected Wearable Device Sync
- Enable Weekly Auto-Sync
- Your Training Plan will automatically be synced to your Garmin App
- If you don’t already have a Training Plan
- Go the Training Tab
- Click Train for a Race
- Follow the steps to create your Training Plan
- When prompted to sync your Training Plan with your Wearable Device, click Yes
- Your Training Plan will automatically be synced to your Garmin App
- Disabling the Weekly Auto-Sync will disable the sync to the Garmin App
Viewing & Completing Workouts on Garmin
In order to start a Workout on your Garmin, you will need to first import the Training Plan into the Garmin App.
Here’s how to do it;
- Open the Garmin App
- Go to your Training & Planning
- Click Workouts
- You’ll be able to click and view the details for the upcoming workouts that you have scheduled.
- To access and start a workout on the watch;
- Select Running
- You’ll be prompted to complete your scheduled workout if it’s on the scheduled date
- Otherwise, you can select a workout from another day
- Select Workouts
- Scroll down to one of the workouts
- Select it
- Go back to the Activity screen and Start the activity
- Completed workouts will be synced back to your Runkeeper Training Plan automatically
Notes
- The automatic syncing process works by Garmin devices sending us their Fit Files. Those types of files are the only ones that will be carried over automatically.
- Some older Garmin devices default to TXC/GPX files when syncing and won't sync automatically.
- You can tell whether or not your device is sending us TCX/GPX or Fit Files by selecting the activity in Garmin Connect, and exporting the 'Original File." If that file exports into a Fit File, then activities from that device should sync automatically.
- Both GPS and indoor activities will sync over from Garmin Connect.
- You can't name indoor activities -- sorry about that!
