Shoe Tracking

We've gotten quite a few requests to add specific pairs of shoes to individual activities. We want to know what you guys would see as the most beneficial part of this type of feature.

For example, do you want to track how many miles you ran on each shoes? Would you like to compare your performance in different shoes? How often do you buy new running sneakers? Let us know!

Hey all!

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on our shoe tracking feature, both before and after it was originally released! We're looking to make a few more adjustments to the current implementation and would love to get some more input from some of our passionate users.

I loved this one...since might help compare to other users how much km or miles a pair of shoes are going to last

I'd like to know when I should replace my shoes. I tend to not alternate shoes, so for me I'd just need to somehow let RK know when I start using a new pair, and a setting so I can tell RK how many miles maximum I want to use a pair of shoes. When I reach that many miles, RK would alert me to switch to new shoes. If I did alternate shoes each run, I'd also need to enter which shoe I'm wearing today so RK would then track each shoe's mileage separately.

Simply to track miles done in different pairs of shoes. I run in different shoes all the time and so it's near impossible for me to keep track manually!

Nice feature, I already do it manually in order to make sure to rotate shoes as it is a proven way to make you less prone to injuries. Both mile tracking for certain shoes for people who are into that and rotation advice would be nice related features.

I'd like to use it to track how many miles on each pair of shoes. This is available on other apps but I'd like to use RK for everything. Thx

Using different pairs shoes is important in order to avoid injuries, keeping track of the number of miles per pair - and possibly set a notification when reaching a set number of miles - would make it easier to keep track of the wear and tear.

If done right...RK has access to tons of amazing data that shoe companies would love to have or add to their own data. Keep it anonymous and you could gather brand, model, user gender, weight, miles/week, and when they were replaced.

Should be win/win for everyone. I use 2 different pairs of shoes and may end up with a third pair. Tracking them directly in the app would be so much easier than the add on shoe tracker or doing it manually. Adding notifications would be great, or being able to set a range...green/yellow/red/black something like that. Especially if you're familiar with a particular brand or model and know that at around 350-400 miles your feet start to really hurt because the cushioning is gone or whatever the case may be would be a great tool.

I currently track my mileage on the shoe box itself as well as on runningahead.com If I could streamline that into runkeeper that would be fantastic.

Hello,

With shoes mileage tracking, I'd like to know
- how far I ran with each pair of shoes
- if some shoes have many more miles than others
- if a ran better with some shoes than others

Feel free to contact me for further explanation

Regards

Rémi

I'd like to see this too. I currently use a separate app on my iPhone to do this but it would be nice to integrate it with RK. I use the notes at the end of a run to note what shoes I used and at some point thought I would do some manual comparison of how well different shoes have performed on different runs / routs but if RK would do that for me at some point - so much the better

Throwing my hat (shoes?) in the ring for this feature as well. It's the only thing I've missed in RunKeeper since switching from Nike+ over a year ago.

Primarily, I would use this feature for knowing when it is time to replace a pair of shoes. But, I would also be able to use the data to help recall how certain shoes performed.

I was with my hiking group the other night and the idea of shoe/equipment tracking came up. Everyone thought it would be amazing. It would be great to compare how long different shoes last, how your performance varied with different shoes, etc. If it were added as a more 'generic' equipment feature then we could check off/track anything special we used for a run or hike. For example, being able to filter on all activities where I said I used Trekking Poles might be interesting.

I would love this too! I usually make a note on the run where I start using new shoes, but then I have to find that run and do a lot of counting to figure out where I am with the life of my shoes. I could use a spreadsheet or other service for this, but it would be fantastic if it were baked right into RK. The ability to choose which shoes you're using (for those who alternate or have different ones for different purposes) would be phenomenal as well.

Absolutely - I use a few different pairs of shoes and always record in the 'Notes' which pair I wore for each run, then use a spreadsheet to keep track of how many miles I've done in each pair. It would be fantastic to be able to do all of this within Runkeeper. Being able to compare runs in different shoes would be good, especially if it could be linked to routes, as that might flag up that certain shoes are better on certain terrains.

I would love to see this feature on RunKeeper. I used another app in the past which had this and it was great for all the reason you listed above but besides my mental reminder that is time for a new par of shoes, it would be nice to also have a visual of how many miles the "old friend" did with me.

Today I'd gotten blisters on my heel while running, so that made me wonder for how long I've been running in these shoes.

This is the only major feature RunKeeper is missing in my opinion.

Basic functionality should allow me to input when I begin wearing a new pair of shoes and allow a text field to enter a user-defined name. From that point on, RK would then track the number of miles I have run. This information would be included on the Dashboard along with my other stats.

More advanced (Elite?) features could include setting a maximum desired miles and RK notifications when approaching/over that set amount. Also, graphing to compare show performance over time and allowing users to compare against other shoes.

Great Idea! I've thought about this for awhile now. I alternate between road and trail running, but I have no idea how many miles are road vs trail. Maybe setting up a customizable sub-category under the "running" activity so runs could be filed. That way, different shoes/runs could be filed and mileage tracked for future use.

I would love this feature. I want to track how many miles I've run in each pair of shoes. I rotate several pairs, and would love to be able to track which shoes I used for each run, ideally with one pair I designate as the default.

I use the third-party app at http://fitness.queso.com/shoetracker/ to do this, and it's perfect, but would be great if I could do this all within RunKeeper.

It would be useful for me to count distance for summer/winter shoes, and for the new ones

As most have already said, I'd primarily like to keep track of shoe mileage so I know when to replace.

I'd like to be able to add (as equipment?) specific pairs of shoes I use each time I run and track the mileage for each pair so I'll know when they are coming up for replacement. Since I rotate among 2 to 3 pairs, I need to know which shoe I used on any particular day.
